Chiang Mai has its own very distinctive culture, arts, festivals, and traditions as well as an exciting mix of local, ethnic as well as expatriate communities from all over the world. It has been voted one of the top destinations to live in Asia and is a modern and cosmopolitan city, while not having lost its traditional old charm. Shopping is a must while in Chiang Mai, whether that means spending an afternoon in the mall near Chiang Mai International Airport or strolling through the city's extensive evening markets. Ideally, it involves both, as the handicrafts, delicate carvings, silk fashions and original artwork in Chiang Mai are first rate. This is also a great place to learn about Thai culture. At relatively low cost, tourists can enroll in cooking, language, yoga or massage classes. Guided meditation retreats to mountain monasteries are also popular, as are visits to elephant camps, including the conservation project, Elephant Nature Park. I've come a long way from the toll bridges of Boston Our vacation in Chiang Mai was wonderful. It was made more enjoyable by the excellent service that we recieved from Richard Katze. Our minds were set at ease from the moment he met us at the airport. The hospitality along with the wealth of information he gave us was more than we could ask for. The Twin Peaks was an excellent location, close to restaurants, spas, nighlife and more. We would highly recommend Mr. Katze service for his attention to detail.
